A free online ERD maker you draw on a shared canvas

Planloom is a collaborative canvas where you draw entity relationship diagrams by hand: tables as class shapes with a header and attribute rows, relationships as connectors that stay attached when you move things, and a cylinder for the database itself. To start from SQL, the free SQL to ERD tool turns CREATE TABLE statements into a diagram first; Mermaid erDiagram is not imported.

What you get

Table-shaped shapes

The UML class shape gives you a title band and rows for columns, and the shape library has a cylinder for databases.

Connectors that follow

Straight, curved or elbow connectors stay bound to tables as you rearrange the schema.

Design with the team

Live cursors, comments on a table and tasks linked to shapes, so schema reviews happen on the diagram.

Link tables to code

Link a table shape to its migration or model file and Planloom flags it when a merged pull request touches that code.

How it works

  1. 1Open a free canvas and add a class shape for each table.
  2. 2Type the columns and connect tables with relationship arrows.
  3. 3Share the board, comment on tables and link them to the code that defines them.

Questions

Does it generate an ERD from SQL?

Yes, for CREATE TABLE statements: the free SQL to ERD tool turns them into an editable diagram. Otherwise you draw it on the canvas; Mermaid erDiagram is not imported.

Does it show crow’s foot notation?

Connectors support arrowheads and labels. Dedicated crow’s foot markers are not built in, so label the cardinality on the connector.

Is it free?
